Curious what to do when it comes to all your summit pages + content? In this episode, we’re sharing 3 options you can utilize for your summit website.
In this episode, we discuss:
- [0:39] Option #1: Keep it on your main website
- [0:56] Why we don’t recommend this option
- [01:42] Option #2: Standalone Website
- [03:53] Option #3: Your Course Hosting Platform
Option #1: Keep it on your main website
The first option is to keep it on your main website. With this option, you would create a page on your existing site for the landing page to opt in and for each individual page required of your summit.
Why we don’t recommend this option
The main reason we don’t recommend this option is because it tends to clutter up your website since summits typically have a lot of pages. Another issue is if someone types in a URL wrong then they will get led to a 404 page for your entire website and that could be confusing. If you need to use this option because you’re tight on funds or some other reason, then that’s totally fine but we just wanted to share why we didn’t love this option as much.
Option #2: Standalone Website
The second option is having the summit on its own website. This is what we do for both our own summits and joint summits. With this option, it allows the summit website to be its own entity because it gives you more flexibility and control with your branding, your name, etc. without cluttering up your existing website.
With our summits we typically run, we usually have 20 speakers or more, so that’s 20 pages already. Then we have the homepage, the speaker page, the FAQ page, several different you’re in pages and it ends up being 30 to 40 additional pages, which is a lot for just your regular main website. Domains are also $10 or less for the entire year so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have your own domain for the summit. Most of the time you’re probably already on a hosting plan for WordPress that allows for multiple websites so it’s not going to be any additional costs to add the website to your host.
Option #3: Your Course Hosting Platform
The third option is to host your summit directly on your course platform. That means all of your daily emails are linked to the course platform rather than a page on your website. All you would really need is the opt-in sales pages and like the thank you pages done on the website or like lead pages or something. And they keep it more minimal, but usually with less external pages, you might not even have a speaker or a scheduled page.
Both the live event and the all access pass is actually hosted on the course hosting platform directly. The main thing here that you need to pay attention to is going to be the access levels and removing non-pay attendees. Once the access ends. This can be a little complicated and it takes a little bit more planning because you are going to need to spot check to ensure that everything is right, and if you’re not techy enough, it might have to be done manually, which adds some time.
Our first preference and what we nine out of ten times recommend is a standalone website but we encourage you to choose what works best for you.
